How is it? My little Castalia?

If you want to know more about her... wait for chapter one of:
The pirate Balthasar.

I am sorry to say it will take me a while to finish up the first chapter... while the promos are still up... let's say I shot over page 40 ^^" and I inked 31 of them and colored and lettered 8 of them.

Currently some work showed up too so the time I usually spend on this is limited to 2 hours after lunch and 4 hours after dinner.

But I work on it, every day... and I am very dedicated to it.
I doubt the first chapter will be perfect or even close to what I was looking for... I can only guarantee that with time the quality of the drawings will increase and time management too.

Master e Formazione Avanzata 2009 - 2010

Master in Cartoon Animation

A chi è rivolto?

Come dice Sgarbi: capra! Capra! Capra!

Ma no.

Stranded on an Island called TV!

I am stranded - away from home - and will be for at least one more week. I have been here since last January 7th and being a guest in my great-auntie's home I cannot force my habit on others. So while she watches TV at night, I work in front of my computer and get to listen to what she watches.

I don't know how it is in other Countries but you have to pay an annual tax of 109,00 euros in Italy for the right to own a TV and watch National Television. The ads say it's the lowest rate in Europe so I wonder how's the quality of TV shows out there.

Here it's crap!

The news

Only partially say what's going on and it's channel has its party to support so... you hear on one side that "this is happening" and on the other one "it's the exact opposite"! Journalists aren't even well prepared... one of them at the last Venice Film Festival interviewed George Clooney's friends ( Matt Damon, I can't remember - and Brad Pitt) and they both joked saying: yeah, he is gay! - his English wasn't good enough to understand they were joking!
So George Clooney was gay for a while and Italian journalists were a laughing stock on American TV for a while - they deserved it. Except at this press conference there was a guy from our Saturday Night Life who went and stripped himself and aske Clooney in marriage - and it was a prank - and this time around the Americans didn't realize it was a joke (and Italian Television was laughing about the Letterman show making fun of the fact afterwards).
Then a couple of days ago another journalist interviews Bertolaso and almost creates a diplomatic incident with the U.S.

What are you competences... how did you get your jobs, dear journalists? Why is it that the search for scoops almost creates more accidents than information?

TV SHOWS

Dancing with the Stars... I reccomend you... and now The Best Italian Ever! --- which works like a talent show but the talents you compare are the one of Saint Francis vs. Leonardo da Vinci. Not even in the same cathegory these two fellas... allow me. Put musician with musician, artist with artist, historical figure with historical figure... then you choose.
Come on! You put Battisti against Puccini! You folks out there, do you even know who Lucio Battisti is? How about Puccini?
As much as Italy loves Battisti... he cannot represent Italy as the best Italian ever... the best Italian of all times is someone who should be known in the whole wide world and make a whole Country proud.
Let's face it: it's Leonardo da Vinci. LOL
DOn't let me mention the others... Italians seem to have discovered Musicals and vowed their lives to its destructions! What a pity!

FICTIONS

My auntie only watched National Television because the others belong to someone she doesn't like... besides what goes on on National TV is still decent, what goes on that's decent in other channels... is an ill translated and ugly dubbed American tv show. (that's why you should get satelite)
So there's a sort of ER - except since we have socialized health care the doctor find out what the problem is faster and without killing the patient all the time (like House does XDD)... and so there's more room for the personal stories... except my great auntie is 86 and there's too much sex in these things and she starts going: aaah! aaaaah! (all displeased, hahahahha)
Plus she comments on everything like a supporter does to a soccer game! Which makes the show much more fun to watch!
We go to our investigative shows... like Don Matteo (where the priest and the Carabinieri find the solution together and in different ways, plus there's the God-loves-you speech in the end--- which is not too sappy though! Thumbs up for Don Matteo). Now Don Matteo is kinda like Murder, she wrote... and you begin to think that he either kills them all or brings very bad luck... or Gubbio - his home town - is a city of murderers and you should never set foot there.
Anyways the only problem with Don Matteo is that when he quotes someone, the quote is right... the source is not. So you'd find Edison quoted as Einstein XDD.

Then last night we were watching this thing called Gli ultimi del Paradiso (the last ones of Paradise)... aside from the fact you could totally see they had decided the name first and the story next (because the way the motivated the title in the story was lame). The fiction had a serious theme: people who dies while working, because safety was not respected.
There was this group of truck drivers, all friends, who are exploited by their employer and, one day, one of the drivers has an accident while unloading a truck and he ends up in hospital. He will not walk anymore and the drivers decide to take to court their case and they get a money refund. Of course while they take legal action they all loose their jobs and the story talks about how difficult it is to get new jobs, pay loans, deal with family and so on.
It would have been nice if the whole thing stopped there.

But no.

Once they get the money, they open a gas station to get more money and since they are in need for money, one of them starts an illicit and unsafe job cleaning tank trucks for his ex-employer (the one the sued). In the end all he talks about is: money money money, cannot afford to do this the right way, money money, nothing will happen to us.
This will cost the life of 3 people: his own, his friend's and a immigrant.

What was the need to turn the victim into an executioner? Was it really needed to see that sometimes people who need money cannot afford to do things safely? Isn't this like saying that employers who don't do things right have their own echonomical and personal reasons? Then what of the people who gets killed because of you?
I didn't like the second part at all. It was not the right message. We say, in Italy, it's like "hitting the barrel and its hoop" (that means you are trying to please everyone and make both sides happy without making either of them really happy).

Should I justify the fact that Freebooks didn't pay me for 2 years because they have echonomical issues? What about my problems? What about the fact that precarious jobs are not protected in any ways and you could spend 20 years going from contract to contract, with no assistance and no chance of getting an old age pension... with no raise and no promotion no matter what you do... for 800 euros per month?

No, it's more important to fight over silly things and get youth out of their homes... and leave them with nothing for the rest of their lives because there's very little room out there and old people doesn't want to leave their jobs... because pensions suck! Then you say you want to cut pensions to help out youth? Then NOBODY will ever leave the work place again... I think there's something faulty in this kind of thinking... it's shortsighted.

While I am in Sicily... I might as well enjoy it!

My auntie has to good habit of putting saffron almost everywhere... so when she makes potatoes stew... trust me, she makes it nice and parfumed and saffrony yellow! *ç*

She also takes good care of me and make Sicilian Pasta con le Sarde... vegetarian! This is supposed to have fish in it (fresh anchovies). She makes a special tomato sauce with this tomato paste they prepare in summer (by drying tomato juice in the sun with salt and nothing else), then she add saffron and wild fennel, plust pinenuts and raisins can never be missing in a Sicilian recipe.
The stuff on top is grated bread, toasted in a pan.

These are cardi.
My auntie cleans them, boils them a bit and then dip them in egg and breadcrums, add some cheese in it and deep fry them... kinda like a Milanese but with cardi instead of veal.

My mom's b-day was yesterday and we got this nice cake. This is called profiterol, it's made with beignet filled with whipped cream and the cream on the outiside is either coffee or chocolate.
It's very nice and light and it's not too sweet. It's my favorite dessert.

Xmas Presents! - I regali di Natale

I finally manage to get back on the web for a couple of days and so I think it's time to update my blog a bit.

but let's start with my birtday present... which was given to me in October and which is still waiting in its box! That's how busy life has been, both for good and bad reasons, so I wonder when I'll find a couple of hours to finally fulfill a childhood wish!

Xmas... I thought I wouldn't get a thing.
That's how Christmas had been for the past 3 years... and it was fine, I mean, usually I seldom get what I want and people get naturally annoyed by my unentusiastic "thank you - smirk - put away" that nobody would get me presents anymore... even though I had created a wishlist!
Fact is... what I like... people find it useless or uninteresting. Too bad that amongst these uninteresting things there's a pile of books as tall as my little self.

My mom got me these... I love cups!!! This dog... I think was to tease me though since I will never get a real one!
The dog's name is Puncho!

These one I got the night of the 24th... Sottile is its name... turned out to be very useful, because my sister uses super slim pillows and I like fluffy tall ones. He saved my neck... as you can see from the many wrinkles, I used it a lot!

Then on Christmast morning, to my surprise, I found 2 other presents...
This one was chosen by my nephew Samuele: because Bau (that's me) likes Jack and likes green.

I think this one was chosen by my sister and my mom! I have become quite annoying with causes and I pick certain ones over others. They must have thought: let's make her happy and do some good... she'll be happy twice. And I was...
My eyes sparkled when I read Italia Onlus Make a Wish - I always loved Make a wish...
http://www.makeawish.it/
The art of the mug is awesome but, honestly, even if it were to be only Winnie Pooh, or Donald or Minnie (and I hate them with all my might!XDD) I still would have loved the mug with all my heart.
Make a Wish - ho sempre ammirato tantissimo Make a wish...
http://www.makeawish.it/

And this was the Epiphany witch's present. Stripes... and purple! Gotta love it!

Vero amore!

This is a Double rainbow

I don't know if you can see it well, but if you click on the images and enlarge it you might see it better.
I had never seen one before! We have many regular rainbows in Italy but a double one beats me! XD
Anyway, it should bring double luck, I guess... and I truly hope so because I really need it right now especially for my poor grandma who isn't doing too well.

Doppio Arcobaleno!

Riuscite a vederli?

Can you see that? At the bottom left corner? Is the book cover I designed for Fiorenza Renda's new novel: tutta colpa di Omero!

She was interviewed by La Repubblica (a very famous newspaper), she is a fantastic author after all, I love her brilliant writing... and my little drawing is there too! *_*

They are about to make a movie out of this story, I thin it would make a fantastic comic as well, like one of those surreal and funny graphic novels you read in about 30 minutes... laughing all the while.

It rained the other day...
this is what happens when temperature drops after the rain:
One day it rained - or at least it tried very hard to... but I should say that what came down was some sort of shy drizzle... a few cute drops did manage to get to the ground, but during the night the temperature reached -12°C and all the rain drops turned into crystals.

At first I thought it was salt, but then again we hadn't dropped any on our pathway and there's no need to drop salt on the train tracks... I guess?

The light in the morning was beautiful and that very afternoon, after a dull sunset, came the most wonderful dusk I had ever seen!

These pictures were taken in Avigliana (Piedmont) you can see its lake and train station!

Be smart, it's Facebook we are talking about!

(the one thing even its owner could not control for one day)

Excuse me if I am crude: if you do believe to this sort of things than you are dumb and deserved to be tricked.

Want to know why? I'll tell ya!

Facebook was created by an American kid almost as a game. It should have been one of those things (kinda like friendster and myspace) to help ex college's friends to keep in touch. It was useful between coworkers too. But still is a social network! Nothing more... and in the Us it does work like that, more or less. Somebody plays little games like Pet Society or Farmvill but they don't wast time to create dumb groups and fanpages for useless things, or at least they do it less than in Europe.

How do I realize the difference? My facebook page has a double life with a 9 hours jet lag. When I wake up in the morning I find all of my friends/relatives/ex-coworkers from the other side of the Ocean writing about stuff, updating statuses, uploading pictures... when it was daytime for them.

I start my day, with delight, replying to their posts, talking to them. Then this other side of the World wakes up and all kinds of cr*p starts showing up: x tt quelli k (for all those who... but written: 4 all ts oo)... I hate this and love that... I am a bit horny so I post romantic stuff on my wall (although it's not really romantic but just horny and I don't care if I pester other with my hormonal parties.

Then politics shows up. Someone sends you request to add this or that game or to do this or that test. THEN you get invited to groups that are absolutely created for spam and phishing!

Usually you get them from noobs. The net is waste and you never know what kinds of sharks you can meet in the waves while you surf... surfers are often attacked by sharks, aren't they? But if you act like a dead seal then you deserve to just attract the chance to be attacked by a shark, right?

So be clever. Trust is a serious thing, don't waste it around!

Just use your brains!

1) Facebook is an American product, most games aren't (playfish should be Scandinavian, more or less)

2) Americans are details oriented and hardworking planners.

3) Whenever Facebook has to announce something, usually it posts something on your home page.

4) The last time they changed something we kept having pop up messages for days!

5) Usually they upgrade without warning, so that the page will change right under your eyes and you can't do anything but accept whatever they are doing.

6) Even its creator was a victim to latest changed applied to Facebook (so much that all his privates pictures were available on the network for enough time).

7) WE are in Italy and think like Italians! But there are also other people out there that just can't wait to get ahold of your personal information/money, etc.. etc...

8) The best way to reach the biggest number of folk on the network, if you are not an engineer, is to create a group or a fan page... which is not an OFFICIAL CHANNEL.

9) Groups are easy to share, you invite people under request, and so forth... they spread like oil... but FB does not need to create groups, because they can harass you with pop-ups!

10) These kinds of groups, that make you believe you'd have a special membership, or special real money to play with games and so on... you have to report them! They have to close

Therefore... seen the argumentation so far we can say that:

Facebook would never use a group to announce special memberships and upgrades.... it facebook wants it will post something on your home page or it will go behind your back and share your information with google without letting you know! With or without your consent! Then it will tell you it's not true (so why bother to ask you to put your settings back if it does not make a difference?).

Facebook will appear on your home page or will not appear at all.

Everything else is the product of an insane mind that only wants money, your personal information to live with spam and phishing... GUARANTEE! (my friend just got his account hacked and sent private messages to all his contacts to invite them to make money with this and that website)

So all you have to to is REPORT THEM!

Right below share you shall find the link to report the page as spam or fake. Don't be silly and just remove yourselves and think: It's not my problem... it will be if comes back at you through your friends.

Facebook is not soiled it gets soiled! If you want to be on the network learn to respect the netiquette and if someone doesn't do it, you have to be moderators and keep it clean! If the environment is clean and calm we all live a better life!

Palavela - Torino

I went iceskating here today.
Nice, smooth ice... I learned a few tricks like skating backward, spin around and lift one leg, cross the legs. It was fantastic... after spinning the head feels so light! *_*

The Palavela is a big facility that was built for the Winter Olympics of 2006. Luckily the city of Turin has decided to keep some of the structures instead of dismantling them!
The Palavela is open during week days for a couple of hours in the afternoon. The ice is so smooth it's incredible! It's like skating on oil!
Of course after one hour it gets scratchy and snowy but that is not a bad thing if you are wearing rent-on skates with no sharp blade.
Now a sharp blade allows you to do things in a more stable way as the blade cuts into the ice, adheres to the surface and the friction keeps your foot steady. When the blade is dull or flat at the bottom your feet would wobble and trying to cross your leg to turn would make you slide sideways and directly onto the floor... which is not usually that bad but not really cool since the ice is sticky and if you hit with the face it hurts and burns like heck! Imagine getting stuck with your tongue on that hahahaha.

The Palavela will be closed to public again starting next march 2010 because the ice skating world championship will be held here in Turin and the competitions will take place both here and at the other ice palace.

Turin is a most amazing city! I reccomend a visit sooner or later and if it gets too cold don't forget to get a cup of bicerin or vin brulé... it will warm you up!

Do not yield too much. People take what you grant for a right and turn it around to their advantage and even ask for more. So that when you don’t yield anymore they accuse you of doing them wrong because it’s their right to ask of you this and that and you are being greedy.
So do not yield, when you grant a favour, let them know it’s a favour you grant and that they are lucky to receive that one thing just that one time… most of all teach them to ask for things with a nice thank you and if you please.

Happy New Year!

When the year ends we all must summarize what went right and what went wrong in order to decide what needs to be done to improve. Finding the problem is the beginning of the solution, right?
These were my thoughts at around midnight.

I don't think I want to go on like this because I am getting old and honestly some of my best feelings were wasted along the way on the wrong things and people. I regressed to a form I used to hold when I was 17 years old, when pent up frustration would lead me to creation but one should not choose to be happy OR creative, one should be both if there's a choice.

I have taken previous engagements for this year but I'll keep in touch with the future to change some things around and abandon all that doesn't work... not because I am wrong and not even because what surrounds me is wrong... but simply because what surrounds me doesn't fit me and I don't fit in with what's around me.

Some things can be loved only from a very long distance, others require selfishness, it all takes much courage. I am sorry but I have changed my priorities and given up diplomacy, because people doesn't think twice before they go ahead and judge me without even knowing what a single thing about what moves my choices?

It doesn't help to be good and nice!

Honestly I don't want to be a bitch to people so I'll retire from certain places and venues and will use my spare time avoiding to see what's out there to focus more on myself.

I shall have but one voice on the web and this will be all!
I smirk and I know why!
