We have a new host!

We have a new host for the Pirate Balthasar, thanks to elianthos and Smackjeeves!

Developing bad/good habits?

I recently realized that I work better listening to a movie rather than to music.
Probably there's no music that truly thrills me these days... so when I was in Sicily I discovered I could go on for hours if the TV was on!
I wonder if this is what's left of a bad habit I had in high school... where I would do make homework with the TV on and the surrounding noise would help me concentrate. In the end... I really don't like TV right now so I started watching movies and dramas on Youtube. Being fond of BBC dramas I have watched like 3 different versions of Jane Eyre and Emma these days... managing to draw 22 pages for the Pirate Balthasar, two
presentations and a chapter cover! I am done with Bronte and Austen so now I am watching things my friend Elianthos recommends! You can see here, I was watching St.Ives while drawing Josh!

Spooky cup - l'infernale tazza gialla.

A completely useless post but.... this is my spooky cup, the ones that always leaves random, creepy shapes at the bottom after I drink my coffee and.... doesn't this look like a cat a bit? My friend saw a lion... says that the stuff around its head is hair. XDDD What do you see?

GRAZIE A TUTTI
Rome!
Every once in a while Rome is not a small collection of towns and you can find something of the Metropolitan feel to it.
After being two months away from home, stranded and making the best of it - anyway - I finally returned to find out my bookstore had sold the book I had ordered for myself (and maybe it wasn't a bad thing, after all) and that somehow after 2 years of email to the City Hall somebody finally realized: ehi, maybe we should resuscitate the Carnevale Romano in some way.
So, be prepared... I am going to see the exhibit on that next and tonight there will be Angelo Branduardi singing in Piazza del Popolo - but I cannot go... for at my return I found out my dad har broken his knee and we are doing all sort of medical test right now.
The Alexander Calder exhibit was marvelous.
I had seen one in Paris last June... by chance! I didn't know they had it at the Pompidou and actually the Pompidou was one place I so wanted to visit that I forced my friend to go, almost.
In the end she fell head over heels in love with Calder and she was the one to tell me...: you know the exhibit is still on until February 17th, shall we go?
Yes!
But you could not take pictures inside the Palace, although no signs stated so è_é and I wish they'd tell me first when I ask, instead of yelling at me after I take my camera out! PUT A SIGN ON THE DOOR, DAMMIT!
Ah, how nice it was! From his mobiles, to the stabiles, to the wire sculpture and even the toys he used to build when he was a child.
Definitely when you see Calder's mobile you see the stuff life is made of!
He said the object move leaving a tail of energy behind. Yes, life is made of energy and energy transform in other types of energies and life moves and because we move with it the World spins!
Simple eh? Yes, but nobody stops to think at simple things!

Ever since I saw the news talk about my favorite restaurant in Rome.... while I was away from home (it was fun to jump on the chair and yell: it's sushisen! That's Kuni-kun!)... ever since I've been dying to go back there and get some mochi.
This one was my friend's lunch... some dragon roll with salmon (which is her favorite)...
I thought the plate was so pretty with all the Celadon Green that
made the orange stand out so nicely!

But my mochi was the best!
Ah, I love it when it's nice and warm and it melts in your mouth without gettin stuck on your palate!
Once my dad's get better and all the health problems in my family are solved... I want to take my mom and dad there and have a big meal with them and celebrate before I took off - If I do take off.
Like a "sail away party"... it must be like the 20th one! Hahahahhaha.

I took this picture for my dad... because he was one of them.
I think it's nice to see our historical uniform go around like that... they should do that more often to remind us of tradition.
Policemen and Carabinieri aren't loved in my Country.
Fact is, right now, they can be thick-headed at times and still they have an easier life compared to when my dad was one of them - and he is paying in health the toll for that!
But you know... the uniform they wear, I have it at home (it's my size too and I wore it once, before they introduced the women Carabinieri)... and I have that hat... it's called Lantern and the feathers on top which is called Pennacchio (plume). But I don't have the sword anymore, they took it back when my dad retired and gave him a main gauche instead... it's not as nice. My dad's sword had a light wooden handle, it was heavy, but it wasn't sharp, it was shiny and it would reflect my face like a mirror.
So when your dad has a cape and a sword and a wonderful hat with feathers... is no wonder that a girl grows up reading adventure books with heroes with sword, right?

Alexander Calder in Rome…. Until February 17th!

... could we just remove them? Why is it that, sometimes, family act more like a cancer, it spreads and consume you?

Blood ties...

… could we just remove them? Why is it that, sometimes, family act more like a cancer, it spreads and consume you?

The one close to you... you may hope to have some influence on their lives... but the others, ah! For ever be forsaken you, nasty bastard, who force me to starve while I was studying and had to work and study and starve!

For ever be forsaken although I cannot wish you ill things... for some things should never be in one's thoughts! But if you walk close to the walls, afraid of being arrested or killed... I wish your cowardice to end soon, one way more than another.

It wont's solve my problems, you ate us all alive and I have to hold back myself in order not to jump at your throat, like a raging dog, when I see you... that won't changed the fact you ruined the lives of people around you and that that makes you a useless being... I hope natural selection gets you soon.

I am tired of people weeping for help - I want a life too... so, sorry, no. No help will come. Next time you'll see my hand stretch towards you, it will be to push you underwater not to take you out! Nature calls for cruelty and I need to rid of parasites in order to live on, with no remorse!

come promesso!

M'illumino di meno!

Stasera, dalle 6:30 alle 7:00....

SPEGNETE TUTTO! :D

More Chirstmas Presents - altri regali di Natale.

Yes, I know, it's almost Easter... but I got back home from a long trip now and found these wonderful two surprises waiting for me.

Sì, lo so, è Carnevale, anzi...

The first present comes from Cinzia, my friend from Sardinia... she is also known as Maya and owns the pet society's pet Gilda... wife to my pet Wilson Kane.
Anyways... these are stickers and I can't wait to put them on my door. Only... I might be moving soon so, should I wait and hang them directly to my new door? Maybe I should!

The second present comes from Japan! Valentina, aka Enju, got me this.... I don't know how to describe it... It should be an origami book but when I look at the instructions I think these are like paper gashapon!

You need to cut out the figures from the pages, fold them, probably glue or tape them and in the end you'll have a paper doll of either Atom, Kimba, Pinoko, Hi no tori or Hyoutantsugi.
Pinoko has a double expression too!

I will probably make color copies and mount those... leaving the original book untouched! But I so want to try it! *__*

And these are the instructions... yes, they are in Japanes... beware, I already mounted a Thousand Sunny with worse instructions than these ones... I can do this! I hope...

I'm a lucky girl! Wonderful people decide to pick me as a friend... I am so rich!

Sono una ragazza fortunata! Tutte queste persone fantastiche scelgono me per amica... sono ricchissima!

Callista/Piedi

Callista/Piedi

Still working on The Pirate Balthasar.... I am on page 30 of 45.
Since I am coming back home on the 10th... how would you like a nice Valentine?
In the meantime come and meet Castalia's second twin...
FOOOOOOD, WONDERFUL FOOD!

How would you like a nice slice of Sfincione?
This is the typical Sicilian pizza. It's taller, it's not made with white flour (OO),
and it has artichokes, onions, usually anchovies (but not on mine) and unsalted pecorino cheese, called Primo Sale, on it!

Or may I tempt you with some cannoli (one cannolo, two cannoli, cannoli is plural!)

Or would you like some Carciofi Apparecchiati (this is like a Caponata with artichokes instead of eggplants... sweet and sour tomato sauce, capers, celery, black olives and onions).

How about Anelletti al forno? It's like the Sicilian answer to lasagne and cannelloni!
You bake these too and add whatever you like as condiment... I like them with lots of cheese.

If you are in a hurry Pane e Panelle is for you!
Delicious seed corn flour bread with sesame seed, filled with salty pancakes made with chickpea's flour!

Very good, to be eaten hot!

My version of Risotto con cardi - they are thinking of giving the DOP (denominated original product) to the Sicilian Cardi (since they don't grow anywhere else it's a way of protecting them).
My version has real saffron in it.

This type of risotto calls for no whine in the making... wine would make a weird reaction with the cardi and the risotto would turn out to be sour.

Let's finish up with some dessert.
Chiacchiere (it's a typical deep fried cookie made for Carnevale/ Mardì gras).
Every Region adds typical/regional wine to the dough... of course, in Sicily, it would be Marsala wine!

Don't you feel a little fatter by looking at these? XD

Se non lo visiti, lo portiamo via! è_é
Via dove? E' mio!

No education? No party!

I opened an album on Facebook to show all the things that truly don't work in my Country... it's called La terra dei cachi (I borrowed the name of a famous song by Elio e le storie tese band - which makes a wonderful portait of what we are supposed to endure every single friggin' day, here, in Italy!)

But now when something works well... you ought to talk about that too and in details!

This is the case as reported by The Guardian. What a nice little fact, eh?
What the judge sentenced, though, has no precedents and will sure help women in the future: outstanding example of Justice (with a capital J)!

Things have a value and things have a price. How long has it been since people have stopped thinking about the value to focus on price? This example was given from parents... to think about the price and status symbol. It all started with an old generation, coming out of the war, that said: I will give my children what I didn't have. My great grandpa used to say: this is what ruined us all!

But once the first generation had had, grew up... and turned 50... what did it have to give to its kids? Only materialistic thoughts: you want this, you buy it. Here's the money. I am too busy, I am working, be patient. Take this money, go buy a toy and be quiet.

People don't realize that, once they have kids, their own life has to fade and tuck behind a bit and it's not the focus anymore. You focus on rising your children or you don't have children. Children have to be the center of the Universe! They are the future (if you gave them one)! If you want to live a free life you don't give birth... they'll be unhappy in your shadow, because you come first!
Parenting is about sacrifices... children see and understand sacrifices and return the favor when you are old: you changed my diapers and I'll change yours.

I always thought this was automatic.

So if you are a parent and have to choose the kind of quality time to spend with your kids... first of all you don't let other THINGS raise them for you: from the TV they pass on the Internet...
and don't give them things that are not naturally in their target: a cellphone when they are 8 years old... a scooter when they are 14...
I think you have problems with the range.
And most of all you don't remember about them when you want to play, have fun or show them around like medals!

You treat them like people and they will do the same with others!

When these kids acted again the girl (she is 12)... they used her as a tool. All they said to the judge was told in a calm voice, and not a single one of them ever gave proof of the fact that they knew that she was a human being.
No tears, no lamentation, no pain would stop them.

Is it because they don't know these emotions?

That's what's been punished, the lack of emotions... but the parents were punished and they deserved it and particularly just was the idea to punish the separated fathers who think that paying alimony is enough to raise a child.

Only one question remains: in the end, were the kids punished? Did they learn the lesson? Did they truly understand what was wrong about the act?

They don't they care for the money, it's something that came easily in their pockets and never had to earn it. I don't think they care for the shame. They don't care for their parents most of all - one might think "if I do this, what will my mom think of me?" but no...

Only when the judge made them think about the consequences their acts will have on the girl... they had a glimpse of understanding (so the parents are at fault)... but are we sure they learned their lesson?

Who will teach them from now on?

Basterebbe poco:

Sedersi davanti al monitor;
Capire come funziona la macchina;
Piegarla ai propri voleri perché virus o non virus, sei tu quello intelligente;
